Smughost

In this article we are going to show you how to add addon domain names to your cPanel. Addon domains allow you to host multiple websites on the same hosting account.

Although addon domains allow you to make the most for your money when it comes to hosting it isn’t recommended to host to many on the same account. This is because each cPanel account is given it’s own set of resources and every website you have on that same account uses them same resources meaning your websites may run more slow, your disc space will be taken faster. It is also a security risk as if someone manages to access your account from one website you host they will have access to all websites hosted on the same account.

1. Login to your cPanel: You can find your cPanel login details in the email we send you when you setup the account or you can connect directly from your Smughost account.

2. Find and Click “Addon Domains” under the “Domains” tab on your cPanel.

3. Now enter the domain name you want to add to your hosting account. You need the make sure the new domain name is using the correct nameservers otherwise it won’t let you add it to the account. You also cannot add it if you already have that domain hosted on the same server.

You then need to choose a sub-domain for that addon domain or you can leave it as the default, 99% of the time you won’t use the sub-domain.

You then need to choose the path in your directories that you want to save this new addon domain name to, it’s recommended to keep it out of the public_html folder as this is the path to your main domain name.

You can then tick the box if you want to create an FTP account for the new addon domain if required.

Then click “Add Domain”.

4. Then your addon domain name is ready and you can start using it by uploading files to the path you specified. You can also use the addon domain to instantly install scripts on Softaculous.
